“Mother Nature provides my challenge and inspiration for presenting flower photographs,” says Mr. Harrison. “Their color intensity and bold compositions honor the physical bounty ever present environmentally but too often overlooked in everyday life.  The work mirrors a personal and intimate view of nature.

Outdoors light conditions and living habitat vary to either compliment or complex aesthetic challenge. Or, a glorious specimen extracted may reign supreme as still life prima donna.  Either way it's a studied vision that snatches the image, the camera but a tool in the process. My responsibility remains to focus, compose and expose to unique effect.”

Howard Harrison started taking photos at age nine, influenced by his Boston family's active snapshot tradition. Post college the childhood hobby morphed into a lifetime as professional freelance shooter and provider of a wide range of creative services headquartered in Manhattan.

Coverage of hot rods and motor sports (teenage interests) were his initial bread and butter. Eventually, in-studio projects lessened imposition of travel and inclement weather. The trajectory, spanning four plus decades, expanded beyond camera work to creation of a boutique custom photo lab, a rental studio facility, design and production of catalogs, video promos, trade show booth displays and the rare wedding or bar mitzvah shoot.  Clients ranged from blue chip corporations (IBM, PepsiCo, AT&T, NY Tel) to national magazines (Vogue, Sports Illustrated, Travel & Leisure) to 7th Ave fashion houses and, obviously Madison Ave. ad agencies and their lesser kin.

Howard's Catskills presence began in 1960 when a photo assignment for Car & Driver brought him to a car restorer in Roxbury, NY.  Noting the area’s ski slopes boots & ski gear accompanied the camera equipment.  The region's simple yet rich physicality provided welcomed balance and opportunity to offset the Big Apple's frenetic pace and challenge.  Winter skiing and summer cycling delivered a healthy regime.  Lengthy membership in the Plattekill Mountain Ski patrol (NSPS) led to professional ski instruction at Belleayre, Hunter and lately Aspen, Co. (PSIA)
