Catskill Center Programs

We are a membership organization that services seven Catskill counties. Our mission is to protect and foster the environmental, cultural and economic well being of the Catskill Mountain Region.

In 2009 the Catskill Center for Conservation and Development celebrates its fortieth anniversary. Created at the height of the American environmental movement, our founders believed that the Catskill Mountain Region was a sacred place for all Americans to enjoy – recreationally, professionally, and culturally. Long before the phrase ‘sustainable living’ entered the vernacular, they saw the importance of balancing environmental conservation with economic development – particularly in the Catskills, where jobs were dwindling and our hamlets and their main streets were closing up shop.

Our interdisciplinary approach to protecting our ecosystems and creating vibrant communities encompasses four program areas:

Arts & Culture Education
Regional Initiatives Regional Planning

Catskill Fire Tower Project
