Katie Palm joined The Catskill Center in November 2010.  As Director of Education she administers Green Connections, a program designed to establish a partnership between classrooms in the West-of-Hudson NYC Watershed and in New York City. Green Connections is a yearlong extension of the Watershed Forestry Institute for Teachers (WFIT), held annually for twenty K-12 teachers in August. Katie coordinates and implements the WFIT program that provides area teachers with the knowledge, skills, and tools to explore the connection between watershed forests and water quality. She will also be assisting with the implementation of the Catskill Stream and Watershed Education Program, Learning Together on the Land, and the professional development work required for the execution of The Catskill Center’s place-based curriculum The Catskills: A Sense of Place.

For the past 8 years, Katie Palm was the Education Specialist at the U.S. Botanic Garden in Washington, DC.  In this role, she planned all the educational programs for adults and children. She has worked in the education department at Longwood Gardens where she created and taught pre-school programs, organized the education volunteers, and helped with many flower shows. Locally, Katie worked at the Watershed Agricultural Council as an Administrative Assistant and for Cornell Cooperative Extension as the Broome County Consumer/Community Horticulturist. As an extension agent, Katie oversaw the local Master Gardener program, ran a four-acre teaching garden (Cutler Botanic Garden), and created a school program utilizing the garden.

Katie holds a MAT in Museum Education from George Washington University in Washington D.C. and a BS in Horticulture from Cornell University.
