The sixth module in our Catskills: A Sense of Place curriculum entitled Sustainable Catskills is complete and ready for use! Sustainable Catskills can help teachers tackle difficult concepts like green energy, food miles and carbon footprints, sustainable agriculture and agrotourism. The use of in-class activities accompanied by place-based field trips help to make these concepts enjoyable for teachers to communicate with their students. The curriculum was written in conjunction with New York State learning standards, and will be easily applied to the lives of students growing up in the Catskill Mountain Region. Lessons are written for 4th-12 grade students with extensions for older students.
The entire curriculum is now available for free download here. The Catskill Center has received funding to conduct teacher trainings and provide additional resources to accompany this curriculum in Tri-Valley Central School and Andes Central School. If you are interested in additional information regarding this curriculum, future trainings for educators, or in piloting this curriculum in your classroom please contact Nicole McShane by phone: (845)586-2611 or email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
