About Us

Founded in 1969, The Catskill Center for Conservation and Development is a membership organization that serves the seven counties of the Catskill Region. Our mission is to protect and foster the environmental, cultural and economic well being of the Catskill Mountain Region. Our interdisciplinary approach to protecting our ecosystems and creating vibrant communities encompasses four program areas – Arts & Culture, Education, Natural Resources, and Regional Planning.

Arts & Culture

The Center's Arts & Culture program encourages an awareness of the rich cultural history and present artistic endeavors inspired by life in the Catskill Mountain Region.

Education

The Center's Education program provides NYC and Catskill children and educators the tools they need to become stewards of our land, water, and cultural heritage.

Natural Resources

The Center's Natural Resources program protects the Catskill Mountain Region’s scenic landscapes and natural resources, including New York City’s drinking water supply.

Regional Planning

The Center's Regional Planning program fosters partnerships, strategies and actions that build sustainable communities and support a regional vision.

Our efforts have led to the protection of over 18,000 acres of land in seven counties, the education of over 9,000 students and 400 teachers, and the revitalization of dozens of communities. To date, we have provided over 130 artists residency at our Platte Clove cabin located in the Town of Hunter in Greene County and held dozens of exhibits at our Erpf Gallery in Arkville.
