- Catskill Center Meeting
A panel of experts will discuss the effects of mercury pollution on the Catskill Region:
Thursday, May 10, 6 PM at the Photosensualis Gallery in Woodstock.
The Catskills are a mercury “hotspot”! Precipitation grabbed by the Catskill Mountains
release more mercury pollution than arguably anywhere in the United States.
The Catskill Center for Conservation and Development’s Mercury Deposition Forum will include the following speakers:
- Dr. Anthony Carpi, Professor of Environmental Chemistry at John Jay College of the City University of New York, will discuss the effects of mercury pollution on forests and soils.
- Amy Sauer, Doctoral Candidate at Syracuse University, will discuss the impacts of mercury on wildlife in the Catskills—specifically songbirds and the bioaccumulation of mercury in the foodweb.
