Catskill Park Stewardship Fund

Creating a lasting legacy of Stewardship in the Catskill Park and at the Preserves of the Catskill Center

The Catskill Center's Preserves, and the Catskill Park and Forest Preserve protect America's First Wilderness

Two of the most direct ways the Catskill Center acts on its mission is through the protection and stewardship of our network of preserves and through our advocacy work to protect and preserve the Catskill Park and Forest Preserve.

The Catskill Center welcomes the public to our preserves and we work to educate and welcome visitors to the Catskill Park through efforts like the Catskill Interpretive Center and our support of the Catskill Trail Steward Program. We hope to welcome many more for years to come. But to do so, we need your support.

Will you please support the new Catskill Park Stewardship Fund today?

Our newly created Catskill Park Stewardship Fund will support our stewardship efforts at our Preserves and throughout the Catskill Park.

Our cabin at the Platte Clove Preserve where artists enjoy their Residence

Our Platte Clove Preserve has hosted visitors for generations, including artists of the Hudson River School. Their work formed one of the first homegrown artistic movements of our nation. Lush paintings dramatized a romantic vision of the Catskills and inspired a generation to protect and preserve America’s first wilderness. Continuing that tradition the Center has hosted an artist in residence program for nearly 20 years at our small rustic red cabin at Platte Clove.

In addition to the historic connection to the formation of the nation’s artistic traditions the Platte Clove Preserve is an exemplar of the primordial geologic history of New York and our planet. Exposed rock formations reveal a history of monumental geological change. This unique topography provides for dramatic views and waterfalls.

This vital and important Preserve is now seeing a new generation of visitors that is ever increasing in numbers with growing impacts from the use, as is the entire Catskill Park. Will you help the Catskill Center in our stewardship work, so that generations to come will be welcomed,  inspired and be proper stewards of our natural resources?

Ensure vistas like these for future generations by supporting the Catskill Park Stewardship Fund

With your support, the Catskill Center will host a Trail Steward at Platte Clove who will welcome visitors as an ambassador to the Catskill Center, the Platte Clove Preserve and the Catskill Park.

Part of a network of Stewards in the Catskills managed by the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference in partnership with the Preserve and Park managers, these stewards are ambassadors for our region. Welcoming, educating, sharing safe hiking and leave no trace principles, these Stewards provide the highest level of service to newcomers and residents alike. Connecting visitors to the recreation they seek while also creating a vital connection to local towns and communities, thereby enhancing the recreational tourism economy of our region.

As a new generation awakens to the beauty of our region, won’t you please take a moment to support continued stewardship our most important and sensitive land? Please join the Catskill Center in supporting the new Catskill Park Stewardship Fund with a contribution that protects the legacy of Platte Clove and the surrounding Catskill Park.

When making your donation through the link above, there will be an opportunity to designate your gift to support the Catskill Park Stewardship Fund or the other programs of the Catskill Center.
