“My Catskills Experience” Writing Contest

The Catskill Center is now accepting submissions for our 2020 spring writing contest. Share with us your experience of our beloved region.

How do the Catskills bring you joy? Where do you love to visit and why? Might you have a favorite trail? A campground full of memories? What is the story of the largest fish you’ve ever caught in the Catskill Park?

We are accepting writing in three categories:
• poetry
• personal essay (500 words max)
• children/young adult writing (17 years and under)

We invite you to tell a story of the past, reminding readers of the Catskills we cannot wait to enjoy again, or a more recent adventure you’ve had in our new COVID-19 reality. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Catskill Center would just like to remind you to stay home as much as possible, stay local if venturing outdoors, and stay safe during this time; and if you do hit a local trail, remember to stay six-feet apart from others.

There will be one winner chosen from each category. Winners will have their submissions published in an upcoming issue of Catskills Magazine and receive a $20 gift card to the Catskills Visitor Center.

Please submit your full name, writing piece, and writing category, with the subject “Catskill Center Writing Contest,” to cccd@catskillcenter.org (as well as any questions you may have about the contest).

There will be one submission accepted per person, so tap into your best creative writing and immerse us in your memory of a Catskills experience!

Submissions will be accepted until May 14th. Winners will be chosen by a panel of judges. The winning entries will be announced Friday, May 22.

Once your story is submitted to the Catskill Center, you are giving the organization permission to publish your writing piece on any one of our digital and/or physical platforms. All authors retain copyright of their work, and all judging decisions are final. We hope you will take a moment to reflect and share a story of the Catskills only you can tell.
