“Representing the fourth generation living in the New Kingston Valley, I have experienced growing up in a time when dairy farming was still at its peak and learn from the seasoned “old-timers” who appreciated and depended upon the land.

During my lifetime, many family dairy farms have ceased operation due to the inability to sustain operations for workforce and financial reasons. Subsequently, there has been a transition from the “seasoned” life-time residents to a new generation drawn to the Catskills seeking the opportunity for a healthier lifestyle, enjoyment of its natural beauty, interest in locally sourced food supply, and general enjoyment of the fresh Catskill Mountain air & wide-open spaces. This new generation’s heartfelt desire to adopt these lifestyle attributes, has opened my eyes and renewed my appreciation (too often taken for granted) to the benefits the region offers.

The Catskill Center for Conservation and Development plays a vital role in preserving this natural heritage. The CCCD advocacy efforts work to protect the sensitive environmental features of the Catskill Park as well as recognize the importance of promoting the economic opportunities necessary to sustain employment in the local communities. These efforts are critical to the overall sustainment of the Catskill Park and its attributes. The CCCD throughout its 50-year history has developed an effective and compelling reputation by thoughtfully balancing the need for environmental stewardship along with economic development aligned with its vision.

I support the Catskill Center for their bold leadership in securing a broad consensus within the region. This collaborative and inclusive approach has been a key ingredient leading to many of the accomplishments and successes to date – benefitting all residents, visitors, and most importantly our precious resources for years to come.”
