NY State Supports the Catskills

The Catskill Center is pleased to see significant funding and support for the Catskills in the recently enacted New York state budget (2016-17). We are also thrilled to see the Environmental Protection Fund (EPF) at $300M. This historic level of funding continues our state's proud and leading legacy of first in the nation conservation and environmental protection, allowing for better investment in our environmental resources across New York state.

Tell Albany: NO ATV Bill In The Budget!

The New York State Senate version of the 2016-17 State Budget includes language which would allow state agencies to open state lands to ATV use, including on the 'Forever Wild' Forest Preserve Lands of the Adirondack Park and the Catskill Park, as well as on other state lands including State Forests, and State Parks!! You Can Help Keep Damaging ATVs Off State Lands.

The Thorn Bioblitz

The Thorn Preserve in Woodstock is a wonderful 60-acre plot of land owned by the Catskill Center and operated in partnership with the Woodstock Land Conservancy.  An old farm plot, it was donated to the Catskill Center to serve as a public preserve to fill multiple conservation education needs.

To serve that goal, the Catskill Center and the Woodstock Land Conservancy planned a BioBlitz at the Thorn Preserve last April. A typical BioBlitz has the agenda of surveying and identifying every species of animal and plant found on a particular piece of property, usually within a 24-hour period (hence the “Blitz”).

Catskill Park Stewardship Fund

Two of the most direct ways the Catskill Center acts on its mission is through the protection and stewardship of our network of preserves and through our advocacy work to protect and preserve the Catskill Park and Forest Preserve.

The Catskill Center welcomes the public to our preserves and we work to educate and welcome visitors to the Catskill Park through efforts like the Catskill Interpretive Center and our support of the Catskill Trail Steward Program. We hope to welcome many more for years to come. But to do so, we need your support.

Woodstock Music Lab

Michael Lang of Woodstock Music Festival fame and Paul Green of the Paul Green Rock Academy have teamed up with several others to create the Woodstock Music Lab. Together with a couple of other partners they have purchased the 50,000 square foot former Zena Elementary School in Woodstock and are planning to open an advanced institute of rock-and-roll music. The Woodstock Music Lab will target the age group of 18 to 26 and will teach courses in music, recording, production and the music business
