With maps, photos and graphics we’ll explore the idea: Was observational astronomy practiced by ancient native populations in northeast America, with observations preserved in manmade and natural landscape features? This is still an open question and most historians don’t credit them with doing so, though the practice was carried out by most cultures worldwide, going far back into antiquity. Some northeast alignments appear configured over distances of hundreds of miles, not unlike those documented by John Mitchell in Great Britain. Has our area been totally and inappropriately marginalized by the mainstream when it comes to archaeoastronomy and landscape archaeology? This talk shows the Northeast and our region, is right up there with the Southwest, Midwest, Effigy Mounds, Lower Mississippi Valley, and other traditions in terms of archaeoastronomical alignments, sensitivity to landscape features, and cosmological understandings.

Glenn Kreisberg is a radio frequency engineer, writer and researcher who served two terms as Vice President of the New England Antiquities Research Association (www.NEARA.org ) Glenn currently serves as Chairperson of the Overlook Mountain Center in Woodstock, NY www.overlookmountain.org.  He has researched and published books, articles and interviews on electromagnetism and the ancients, ceremonial stone structure sites and alignments in the northeast U.S., and Archaeoacoustics, the archaeology of sound, among others. Glenn is also co-editor of the NEARA news desk. He has edited and contributed to the anthologies “Lost Knowledge of the Ancients” and “Mysteries of the Ancient Past”, published in 2010 and 2012 by Inner Traditions - Bear & Co. His third book from IT, “Spirits in Stone”, will be out next year. Glenn is a lifelong resident of Woodstock, NY, where he lives with his wife and two children.
