Hosted each year by NYS Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, the First Day Hikes are a great way to start the New Year, and can be found all around New York State! Join Catskill Center staff for a fun hike on January 1st 2022 up to Overlook Mountain Fire Tower with a great view of the Catskills and the Hudson Valley. Pre-registration is required and the hike is limited to 8 people.
Learn about the 2022 Catskill Fire Tower Challenge, the history of the Catskills fire towers, and the Catskill Park. There will be the option to go inside the top cab of the fire tower. Micro spikes or another foot traction device are required, and sturdy waterproof hiking boots as well as trekking poles are strongly recommended. Please bring warm layers, an insulated jacket, snacks, and 2 liters of water. Masks will be required when social-distancing is not possible.
Please email Olivia at obernard@catskillcenter.org or call 845-688-3369 to register for the hike. Please feel free to email or call with any questions about gear to bring or about meeting time and location. All participants of the First Day Hike will receive a free gift, and will be entered into a drawing to receive a subscription to the DEC publication the Conservationist. Meeting time is 7:45 am on Saturday, January 1st at the Overlook Mountain Trailhead: 353 Meads Mountain Road, Woodstock, NY 12498.
