Opening Day Schedule:
9:00 AM: Hunter Mountain Hike with Moe Lemire
Meet us at the Hunter Mountain Trailhead at 9:00 am.
A very rocky trail with consistent elevation gain leading to a fire tower. This hike begins at a trailhead on Route 214 near Stony Clove Notch in Hunter, NY. The trail ascends for approximately 2.35 miles and gains 2240 feet in elevation. The trail returns the same way, descending back down to the parking area. The Hunter Fire Tower top cab is open for sweeping 360 degree views on weekends from May through October, staffed by a Catskill Center volunteer
12:00 PM: Diamond Notch Falls Hike with Jenny Flavin
Meet us at the Diamond Notch Falls trailhead at 12:00 PM.
Located near the top of the Spruceton Valley, the 0.7 mile easy to moderate walk from the end of the Spruceton Road (County Route 6) ends where the West Kill Creek tumbles over Diamond Notch Falls. Along the way, the trail follows the West Kill Creek offering a number of areas to enjoy the scenery or take a swim in the many pools.
2:00 PM: Kickoff Celebration at West Kill Brewing
We will gather at West Kill where anyone who is registered for Hike for the Catskills will receive a drink ticket and will have an opportunity to taste the second brew of Mountain Life, a beer brewed in collaboration with Eastern Mountain Sports that benefits the work of the Catskill Center. Eastern Mountain Sports will be at the celebration with raffle prizes. There will also be food for purchase.
Please be sure to register for the hike you’d like to go on below. Adequate hiking footwear is necessary for both hikes. Bring plenty of water, and snacks if you wish. Both hikes will end in time for the celebration at West Kill Brewing.
