LARK IN THE PARK: MUSHROOM ID WALK TO RED HILL FIRE TOWER

Join our Catskill Head Steward, Sammi, on a mushroom identification walk to Red Hill Fire Tower. We will be hiking to Red Hill Fire Tower from the Denning Road Trail Head. This trail has moderate elevation gain with one rock scramble near the top. On our way to the fire tower we will stop and try to I.D. mushrooms and other fauna along the trail. Plan to pack a lunch, there are picnic tables at the top. Hikers will be able to climb the tower and enter the cabin as well. This is a moderate hike, and we’ll be going at a leisurely pace to be able to stop and find mushrooms and plants along the trail.

Event Duration: 4 miles, 4 hours

Level of Difficulty:  Moderate

Bring: Lunch/ snacks, water/ drink, sunscreen, insect repellent, proper clothing, rain gear.

Registration required by 10/5. This hike is limited to 12 people, so please register early.  Use registration form below to register.

Driving Directions: From State Route 28 at Big Indian, take Ulster County Highway 47 south for 20.6 miles (becomes Sul. Co. Hwy 157) to the stop sign near Claryville. Turn left onto Denning Road and proceed 2.8 miles and the sign at the trailhead parking will be on your right.

From State Route 55 just west of Grahamsville, take the Claryville Road (Sul. Co. Hwy 19) for 7.4 miles and the sign at the trailhead parking will be on your right.
