Become an X-Snow Community Scientist!

Snow plays a crucial role in Earth’s climate, water supply, and ecosystems. Yet, for all its importance, there’s still a lot we don’t know about how snow behaves, especially along the East Coast. That’s where you come in!

Join X-Snow’s Marco Tedesco, a snow and ice researcher at Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, for the launch of this exciting community science effort in the Catskills. Lunch will be provided as you learn how to contribute to real scientific research by taking simple snow measurements right in your own backyard.

At this event, you’ll:

• Get an overview of the X-Snow project and why it matters

• See a live demonstration of the sampling equipment and drone technology used to study snow

• Learn how to collect and submit snow data to help improve weather predictions, flood models, and climate research

• Find out how to join the project as a volunteer and become a community scientist

No special equipment is required—just curiosity and a willingness to help!

The X-Snow project, facilitated by Marco Tedesco, Margie Turrin, and Marisa Annunziato, is a 3 year NASA funded Community Science Initiative that aims to extend the number of available snow measurements in the regional northeast with a focus on the Catskill, Adirondacks, and Upper Hudson regions.
