The Twelfth Annual Lighting of the Catskills Fire Towers

On Saturday night, August 30th, volunteers from the Catskill Fire Tower Project will climb five fire towers in the Catskill Park to light them up for everyone to see. (Rain date Sunday, August 31)  From 8:30 to 9:30 PM, the cabs at the top of the fire towers will be illuminated with powerful lanterns. These lights can be seen from other fire towers and from many locations in the valleys below.

Look up to see Balsam Lake Mountain, Hunter Mountain, Overlook Mountain, Red Hill and Mount Tremper lit brightly as a beacon honoring the days when fire tower observers kept watch over Catskill forests to help defend them from forest fires.

The Catskill Fire Tower Project is a program of the Catskill Center. For information on viewing locations for the Lighting of the Fire Towers, contact 845-688-3369, or info@catskillcenter.org.
