Catskill Center Supports Efforts to Revise NYS Requirements for Forest Landowners
The Catskill Center is pleased to see the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation’s efforts to reduce administrative burdens in the Forest Tax Law Program, encourage greater enrollment, and improve forest management by clarifying and strengthening various requirements.
In response to the NYSDEC’s proposed overhaul of these nearly 50-year-old regulations, the Catskill Center submitted a comment letter September 7, focusing on reducing the administrative burden on participating forest landowners, helping DEC promote compliance with requirements in place, and maintaining and improving sustainable timber management on enrolled lands.
Ensuring successful partnerships between private landowners and the State is essential for securing the economic and environmental future of NY’s working woodlands, and supporting the State's climate efforts.
