The Catskill Center is thrilled to announce dates for its second annual birding conference, “Taking Flight: Birding in the Catskills”. Taking Flight will be held Friday, June 9th through Sunday, June 11th at the Frost Valley YMCA in Claryville, NY.

The Catskill Center is pleased to announce the opening of Catskill 360, a show of immersive photographs by Alan Powell. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, April 1st from 2-4pm at the Catskill Center’s Erpf Gallery. The show is scheduled from April 1st thru May 20th. Alan Powell’s photographs capture unique scenes from across the region using a special technique that stitches together multiple images into an immersive 360 degree view.

Join photographer, fly-tyer and outdoor guide Mark Loete as he shares his experience creating the photography exhibit Catskill Fly Tying: the Art of Artifice. Mr. Loete's talk will be held at the Catskill Center's Erpf Gallery on Saturday, March 4 from 1-2:30 pm.

The Catskill Center is accepting application for the 2017 Platte Clove Artist-in-Residence Program. Applications are due by Friday, March 31, 2017.

Thanks to the leadership of Senator Seward and Senator Amedore, we have seen the creation of an Aid to Localities line for the Catskill Park. The first year's funding is already going into the creation of a comprehensive recreation plan for the Catskill Park and access improvement projects across the region. The goal of the recreation plan is to look at the Park as a whole, open spaces, public lands and communities, and see how we can connect existing trail systems, where we can provide more recreation opportunities for the public and how we can connect our communities to each other and to the vast open space resources around them to help build economic opportunities based on outdoor recreation of all forms.

We would now like to see a commitment to build on this collaborative success by establishing a regular annual “Catskills Package” that would support projects to improve our regional economy by supporting both enhanced access to, and stewardship of, our public lands, ultimately providing a world-class experience for visitors and residents alike, that strengthens the economy on Main Street and our natural environment by spurring the development of permanent sustainable jobs that are based on our multitude of outdoor recreation opportunities

The Catskill Conservation Corps hosted a workshop where 6 people attended and learned how easy and rewarding it is to be Interpretive Center Volunteer. The Catskill Interpretive Center is staffed mostly by volunteers and is always looking for more volunteers to help out. This hands on workshop taught people everything they need to know from opening and closing the building, store operations, public resources and more. They all found out how easy and rewarding becoming a Catskill Interpretive Center Volunteer can be!!

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) today reminded visitors to the Kaaterskill Wild Forest in the Catskill Forest Preserve, Greene County, to follow designated trails and obey posted signs after recent accidents at Kaaterskill Falls. In November, DEC completed numerous safety and public access improvements at the popular Kaaterskill Falls. The projects are all part of a comprehensive effort to make the Kaaterskill Wild Forest area a safer and more enjoyable destination to visit.
