Spring 2023

2020 Photo Contest Winner: Common Merganser Family by Kathleen Colligan

Entry period

April 3, 2023 - May 3, 2023 at 12 pm (noon) Eastern Time.

Why Submit Photos to the Catskill Center Photo Contest?

Other than the possibility of winning an awesome prize, submitting your photo(s) to our photo contest is an opportunity for you to become a part of the Catskill Center in a unique way. You would be helping to further our cause by providing us with authentic images of the Catskills as seen through the eyes of its residents and visitors. While you may not win a prize, your image will still support the Catskills by illustrating the Catskill Center’s mission.

So, dig into your archives or go out and capture some new photos!

categories

fun with friends

Whether you’re hiking a high peak with your friends, or enjoying a picnic in a park with your family, we want the various ways that folks recreate in the Catskills.

waterscapes

From vast reservoirs to flowing waterfalls, the Catskills have endless waterways worthy of your artistic eye.

mammals in the catskills

From a sleuth of black bears to a romp of river otters, the mammals of the Catskills are quite captivating.

birds, insects, and aquatic species

Beyond mammals, there are boundless other animals in the Catskills worthy of celebration.

Cats of the catskills

Maybe you captured a photo of a prowling bobcat, or perhaps you capture your photogenic house cat by the sugar maple in your backyard. We want to see cats in the Catskills enjoying the outdoors!

Prizes

Photos will be judged based on their quality, uniqueness, and ability to encompass the beauty of the Catskills beyond landscape alone. As beauty can be defined in many ways, we hope you will take this as an opportunity to be creative; photo submissions are only as limited as the creativity of the photographer. Prizes will be awarded for three different placements and an honorable mention for each category.

First Place
First-place winners will be voted on by a panel of judges and receive:

  • Their photo published in Catskills Magazine;

  • A $50 gift card to the Catskills Visitor Center; and

  • A $200 check from the Catskill Center

Public Choice
This will be voted on by the public (see below for more details). Winner will receive:

  • Their photo published in Catskills Magazine;

  • A $25 gift card to the Catskills Visitor Center; and

  • A $100 check from the Catskill Center

Second Place
Second-place winners will be voted on by a panel of judges and win:

  • Their photo published in Catskills Magazine;

  • A $25 gift card to the Catskills Visitor Center; and

  • A check from the Catskill Center for $100

Honorable Mentions

Honorable mentions will be voted on by a panel of judges. There will be an honorable mention for each category. Winners will receive:

  • Their photo published in Catskills Magazine; and

  • A $25 gift card to the Catskills Visitor Center

Public-Choice Nominees: Ten photos will be selected by our judges to be posted in a survey the week of May 15 for a ranked public vote. You will be notified if your photo is selected as a Public Choice nominee. If nominated, your photo will be posted on our social media pages with a link to the public-choice survey. You can share the post and encourage votes for your photo.

Each participant may enter up to two photos per category; however, there will only be one prize awarded per person. Please submit your photos by filling out this Google Form.
