What is Community Solar?
A Community Solar project, sometimes referred to as a Solar Farm, is a solar power plant whose electricity is shared by homeowners, renters and businesses. Customers can share the benefits of solar power, even if they cannot or prefer not to install solar panels on their own roof/property. Customers continue to receive their electric service from New York Sate Electric and Gas Corporation (NYSEG) and receive discounts on their bill through solar bill credits. Community Solar provides clean, renewable energy, protects against rising fuel costs, supports energy independence and reduces carbon emissions. NYSEG customers are eligible to participate in the program.
Cindy Menges, Director of Delaware Rive Solar, will go in depth about the environmental advantages of Community solar and the reasons so many people are signing up.
