MaMA is an innovative approach that provides hope for conserving ash and mitigating damage from the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), which threatens killing virtually all the ash trees in the area; training includes instruction in MaMA’s citizen-science and land-manager projects to find EAB-resistant trees. 1/2 a credit for New York Logger Training continuing education is awarded for participation. To register, email Carla Hegeman Crim at ceh27@cornell.edu or call 607-865-6531.
In this training, join one of the New York State Hemlock Initiative’s experienced field technicians as they take you through the yearly phenology of hemlock woolly adelgid. Learn how to identify HWA in the field during any time of year.
Together we will survey Kenneth Wilson campground to make sure Mile-a-Minute doesn’t spread on to the property, pulling any vines that we find.
Mile-a-minute is a highly aggressive invasive climbing vine native to Asia that can shade out and smother native plants. It has recently been found for the first time in Woodstock, NY.
Come learn about identification and best practices for management of Mile-a-Minute. We will learn about the biology and best management of this plant. Afterwards, we'll get hands-on experience with this vine in a group survey and pull on a nearby property.
This training is a precursor to a Mile-a-Minute survey in the Kenneth Wilson state campground nearby, to help prevent this invasive vine from spreading through the region.
Invasive species experts will lead a walk identifying, discussing, and tagging host trees for the Asian Longhorned Beetle.
Take a gentle guided stroll along the Batavia Kill stream in Windham with scientists at your elbow. Catch breathtaking Catskill Mountain views and learn about all the ways that healthy streamside lands are important for plants, animals, and people!
Dan Snider, the Catskill Center's CRISP Field Projects Manager will be making a presentation to the Oneonta Town Board about Emerald Ash Borer.
