Take a gentle guided stroll along the Batavia Kill stream in Windham with scientists at your elbow. Catch breathtaking Catskill Mountain views and learn about all the ways that healthy streamside lands are important for plants, animals, and people!

Peg DiBenedetto will present an overview of eastern Golden Eagles; their local habits and behaviors, and migratory routes, as well as the methods used and experiences she and her husband Michael have had, working with the Eastern Golden Eagle Project.

Join the Catskill Center's Executive Director, Jeff Senterman at the Maurice D. Hinchey Catskill Interpretive Center (CIC) for a walk with on the site's trail network. There are three short trails on site: An approximately 1/2 mile long, level loop trail around the perimeter of the site (also built to ADA accessibility standards); An approximately 1/4 mile long trail that climbs to a bluff overlooking the CIC; and an approximately 1/2 mile long trail that goes to the bank of the Esopus River. Depending on group size, ability and weather conditions, we'll do our best to cover all three trails.

The Catskill Center is hosting Selinda Brandon, Wildlife Biologist at the Department of Environmental Conservation’s (DEC) Division of Fish and Wildlife will talk about the DEC’s Young Forest Initiative – what is it, what can landowners do, what are the benefits.

Join Marguerite R.N., Herbalist and Wild Foods Forager for a 2 hour lecture and a power point presentation evening that includes a wild local food and drink tasting; and electronic handout with recipes included.

Spend an evening with Jeff Senterman, the Catskill Center's Executive Director, learning about the history of the Catskill Park, hiking trails and the current politics of the Park through presentation and audience participation. There will also be an opportunity to learn about the work that the Catskill Center is doing to preserve and steward the Catskill Park.

Join us the evening of Thursday, March 16th to prepare for the spring flush of wild edible greens with chef and forager Rob Handel from Heather Ridge Farm and The Bees Knees Café in Preston Hollow. In his presentation Rob will highlight some of the wild edible greens common in the Catskills and how to identify them. Possible lookalikes, other identification resources, and simple ways to utilize them will be discussed. The presentation will be followed with a Q&A session and samples of foods prepared with some of the greens mentioned. Tickets $15 per person. Registration required

The economy of the Catskill region is built on the natural beauty of its forever wild land. To further preserve and enhance this region’s economy we ask for an appropriate funding level of $10 million from a multitude of sources that will form a “Catskills Package” to support the region. Few other places on earth contain so much abundant undisturbed land so close to so many millions of people. With few options for economic development, appropriate access to the more than 450,000 acres of public land within the Catskill region is the key feasible foundation for economic opportunity. Access for the millions who rely on its open space, facilitated by acquisition of the key access points of unprotected land within park boundaries, will significantly enhance economic opportunity while meeting Governor Cuomo’s conservation goals and principles, in line with New York State’s proud and leading legacy of first-in-the-nation conservation.

Diane Galusha, author of Liquid Assets: A History of New York City’s Water System, will have the answers at an illustrated talk Saturday, Nov. 12 at 1 p.m. at the Catskill Center, 43355 State Highway 28, Arkville.

Black bear populations have been increasing over the past 30 years in New York State. This increase has provided opportunities for people to enjoy viewing bears. Unfortunately, their increasing presence occasionally conflicts with human interests. Join DEC Wildlife Biologist Larry Bifaro on Thursday, September 29 from 7-8:30 pm to discuss the natural history, behavior and management of black bears with emphasis on interactions with people.
