The 18th Annual Catskills Lark in the Park Brings Back Some In-Person Events

September 27, 2021 -- Arkville and Margaretville, NY: The 18th Annual Catskills Lark in the Park kicks off October 2nd for ten days of events and self-guided tours. From hiking and paddling to cycling and taking scenic drives, there’s something for each visitor during this celebration of the Catskill Park that runs through October 11th.

“The 18th Lark in the Park offers activities that will appeal to the interests and the comfort level of anyone,” says Executive Director of the Catskill Mountain Club Wendell George. “After last year's hiatus due to the Covid pandemic, we are offering a limited number of in-person events that will follow strict safety protocols to ensure that participants can enjoy themselves.”

Since its inception in 2004 to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Catskill Park, the Lark in the Park has brought together thousands of people who have participated in hundreds of events sponsored by dozens of organizations, all aimed at heightening awareness of the Catskill Mountain region.

For this year’s Lark in the Park, the Catskills Visitor Center features new exhibits in its renovated indoor space (masks required), and is a great starting point for any visit to the Catskills. Climb the fire tower for sweeping views of the Esopus Valley and talk with staff members to find places of interest.

“The Catskills Lark in the Park is a great opportunity to learn about and explore the Catskill Park, and all of the outdoor recreational activities it provides. We're excited to celebrate our 18th year of co-sponsoring Lark in the Park with the Catskill Mountain Club,” says Catskill Center Executive Director Jeff Senterman. “This annual celebration is an important reminder of the history of the Catskill Park, its rich nature-based activities, and the partnerships and collaborations that go into ensuring this unique area is forever protected and enriched.”

Lark in the Park presents educator Lize Mogel’s podcast tour “Views from the Watershed.” Plus, local experts will lead a few in-person events, with a limited number of participants. Event listings on the Catskills Lark in the Park website specify COVID safety guidelines.

Lark in the Park is a partnership of the Catskill Center, Catskill Mountain Club, New York-New Jersey Trail Conference, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
